Coronavirus Northern Ireland: Department of Health reports 18 further Covid-19 related deaths

A further 18 deaths linked to coronavirus have been recorded by the Department of Health.

Figures released on Tuesday afternoon show the death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 1,384.

Of the 18 deaths reported today, the Department say 11 occurred over the last 24 hours with the remaining fatalities occurring outside the current reporting period.

And the latest dashboard update shows a rise in positive cases of the virus by 1,378 in the last 24 hours.

Over the last seven days, there has been a jump in positive cases of Covid-19 by 12,487 - 1,386 of which were under the age of 19.

The total number of positive cases of the virus in Northern Ireland since the pandemic began is 81,251.

As of Tuesday morning, there are 45 coronavirus patients in ICU.

Meanwhile, the Executive is meeting this afternoon to discuss further tightening of restrictions amid this increase in cases and deaths.

Discussions will include school closures and travel restrictions, and in the last hour it has been announced that the Transfer Tests have been cancelled.
