Coronavirus Northern Ireland: Department of Health reports 14 further deaths linked to virus

The Department of Health has reported a further 14 coronavirus related deaths.

On Tuesday's Covid-19 dashboard update, the first since Christmas Eve, a rise in deaths by 13 was recorded in the last 24 hours.

And one death occurred outside of this reporting period.

The Department has recorded 51 deaths linked to the virus from December 23 to 28 which brings the death toll to 1,305.

Summary of Tuesday's figures (DoH)

A rise in positive cases of the virus by 1,566 was also recorded by the Department of Health on Tuesday.

The total number of positive cases in Northern Ireland stands at 68,762 as of midnight on December 28.

And the number of coronavirus patients in ICU has risen to 34.

On Boxing Day, new coronavirus restrictions came into effect across Northern Ireland.

From December 26-January 2 the following restrictions are in place:

  • Non-essential retail must close including garden centres, click & collect services, and homeware stores
  •  
  • All of hospitality must close, except deliveries & takeaway (Hotels, B&Bs, hostels exempted)
  •  
  • Close contact services, including hair salons, tattoo shops, beauticians to close
  •  
  • Car washes will close
  •  
  • All essential businesses that are allowed to open must close at 8pm for the first week of lockdown
  •  
  • No sporting activity of any kind is allowed during first week of lockdown
  •  
  • No household mixing except in an emergency
  •  
  • No outdoor mixing with other households
  •  
  • People will be asked to stay at home after 8pm and until 6am the following morning for the first week of lockdown
  •  
  • Outdoor exercise will have to be undertaken alone or with members of your own household - no mixing outdoors is allowed
  •  
  • Essential businesses that are able to remain open must close between 8pm and 6am - this includes shops and supermarkets
  •  
  • No indoor or outdoor gatherings of any kind are permitted after 8pm and before 6am, including at sporting venues
  •  
  • No household mixing is allowed in private gardens or indoors in any setting between 8pm and 6am, except for emergencies or the provision of health or care services or where households have chosen to form a Christmas bubble for a period of time between 23 to 27 December with provision for travel a day either side when absolutely necessary
  •  
  • Schools will not close but there will be more focus on remote-learning when the reopen at the beginning of January
