Coronavirus Northern Ireland: Department of Health reports 11 further deaths

The Department of Health has reported a further 11 coronavirus related deaths.

Thursday's dashboard update shows eight deaths occurred in the last 24 hours, and three deaths outside of this reporting period.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 1,026, the DoH says.

And these figures also show a daily rise in positive cases of Covid-19 by 456.

Figures for the last seven days indicate a rise in cases of the virus by 2,646.

As of Thursday morning, there are 38 patients with confirmed coronavirus in ICU.

Meanwhile, the Northern Ireland Executive is due to meet on Thursday to discuss the current restrictions.

A two-week circuit breaker is in place affecting hospitality, close contact services and retail.

It is possible the Executive may not reach a decision today and will have to revisit the discussion early next week.

Justice Minister Naomi Long said there is a "strong argument" that some relaxations could be allowed due to a fall in transmission levels.

She told the BBC's Nolan Show : "We have to listen to the advice that we're given.

"We will meet as an Executive later today, we will hear that advice, we will have the presentations that come from the Chief Medical Officer and the Chief Scientific Officer about where we are at the moment, and we will be able to have that discussion in the round about what happens."

She added: "We are currently in a very stringent set of restrictions, and there is certainly a strong argument I think that we would be able to see some relaxations."
