Coronavirus Northern Ireland: Department of Health records nine further deaths and 341 new cases

The Department of Health has reported a further nine deaths linked to coronavirus.

On Tuesday's dashboard update, the Department's figures showed the death toll in Northern Ireland to stand at 2,009.

Yesterday the death toll linked to Covid-19 reached 2,000.

A daily rise in positive cases of the virus by 341 was also recorded by the Department.

The total number of individuals who have tested positive for the virus is 109,488 since the beginning of the pandemic.

There are currently 55 patients with Covid-19 in ICU across Northern Ireland.

Health Minister Robin Swann has emphasised that the threat of Covid-19 must never be underestimated.

The Health Minister was speaking yesterday after Northern Ireland reached another sad milestone in the pandemic with the Department of Health’s dashboard recording 2,000 Covid-related deaths.

The Minister said: “We must not forget that behind every death will be a family left in grief.

“I want to extend my sincere condolences to every family mourning the loss of a loved one.”

“Sadly, we know this virus has the potential to take more lives so it remains as important as ever to be vigilant and follow all the public health advice.

“[Monday] serves as another harsh reminder that we cannot be complacent.”
