Coronavirus Northern Ireland: Department of Health confirms 40 new cases over weekend

There have been 40 new cases of the coronavirus over the weekend according to the Department of Health.

In its daily dashboard update on Monday, the Department highlighted that there have been no further deaths from the coronavirus in Northern Ireland, with 556 people passing away from the virus.

There have now been 5,988 who have tested positive for Covid-19 with 40 more positive test since Friday, July 31.

According to the report, 92 people here have tested positive in the last seven days.

The Newry, Mourne and Down area has seen the largest increase in positive cases, with 34 in the past seven days.

This is followed by Mid and East Antrim which has seen a rise of 18.

1,522 people have been admitted to hospital with Covid-19, with 1,504 of these being discharged.

There are currently three inpatients with the virus, with two of these being in intensive care.

333 people have passed away from Covid-19 in a hospital setting, 187 in care or residential homes, 21 have taken place in the community and 15 have not been recorded.

Belfast has seen the largest number of positive cases with 1,432 people contracting the virus. Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon has had the second highest amount with 764.

The area with the least amount of positive tests is Fermangh and Omagh.

To date, there have been 145,485 individuals tested for the virus.
