The Department's figures also show that in the last seven days, 5,947 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19.

As of Thursday morning, there are 44 coronavirus patients in ICU.

On Wednesday, the Department reported Northern Ireland's youngest Covid-19 related death.

Aaron Doherty, 17, from Derry, died on Tuesday in Altnagelvin Hospital.

Speaking to Derry News, Aaron's father Jim said his son had tested positive for Covid-19 last month and last week received a negative test result but had taken ill on Monday night.

“He was just the happiest child you could ever have met and was just so loved," he added.

“He was a really bad colour and we phoned the out-of-hours service and the doctor phoned us back.

“When we described Aaron's symptoms, the doctor told us to ring an ambulance straight away.

“The ambulance arrived and the staff worked with him.

“He was wheeled into the back of the ambulance and I said 'I'll see you later' and he waved back.

“That was the last time I saw him alive.”
