Coronavirus Northern Ireland: Decision to be made on 2020 SuperCupNI youth football tournament

Organisers are set to decide whether this summer's SuperCupNI youth football tournament will go ahead.

The 2020 competition is due to be held from August 2-7 and attracts teams from all across the world.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has virtually placed all sport on lockdown, with many major events having already been cancelled or postponed.

SuperCupNI organisers will hold talks with key stakeholders next Tuesday (April 21) before a decision is made.

“There are a lot of things up in the air at the moment,” SuperCupNI chairman Victor Leonard told Chronicle Sport.

“We have to take into consideration expert medical advice as well as our concern for the participating teams, some of whom are coming from very far away.

“We have been watching the situation very closely and are constantly monitoring what is happening around the world.

“We will be holding a conference call with stakeholders, including the local council, on April 21 after which I expect we will make an announcement."
