Coronavirus Northern Ireland breakdown shows rise in cases by 6,893 this week

Northern Ireland's coronavirus death toll has sadly risen today by five.

On Friday afternoon, the Department of Health's Covid-19 dashboard update showed the death toll to have reached 639.

In the last 24 hours, a further 1,252 positive cases of the virus have been recorded bringing the total number of positive cases here to 32,286.

And over the last seven days, 6,893 individuals have tested positive for coronavirus in our communities.

The daily increase of positive cases were higher in Belfast (321) than in any other district, according to new figures.

In the Department's breakdown of figures in Northern Ireland, the BT48 postcode area is the hardest hit by coronavirus.

It has recorded 615 positive cases in the last seven days.

BT47 follows with 506 positive cases this week, BT17 has had 240 and BT71 has had 223 reported cases.

Looking further into testing figures over the last week, from October 16 to October 22, the 20-39 age category has recorded the highest number of positive cases of the virus at 2,667 - 778 of those were in Belfast.

Age category testing over last week:

  • 20-39 - 2,667
  • 40-59 - 2,086
  • 60-79 - 958
  • 0-19 - 955
  • 80+ - 227

In terms of hospital admissions, there have been 2,491 and 2,195 discharges.

At present, there are 296 patients with coronavirus in 20 hospital sites across Northern Ireland.

And 34 Covid-19 patients are in ICU as of Friday morning - Northern Ireland has 19 unoccupied ICU beds.
