Coronavirus Northern Ireland: 21 further Covid-19 related deaths recorded by DoH

The Department of Health has reported a further 21 coronavirus related deaths.

According to the latest update, 16 of the fatalities are said to have occurred within the current reporting period, and five outside of it.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 1,692, according to the DoH.

Thursday's dashboard update reports a further 732 positive cases of the virus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 98,351 since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the Department say 5,563 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

There are currently 806 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 70 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, the Stormont executive is to consider extending Northern Ireland's current coronavirus restrictions to March 5, Belfast Live understands.

A paper being brought to the Executive today by Health Minister Robin Swann is understood to propose a four-week extension of the current rules.

Northern Ireland is currently in the fourth week of a six-week lockdown which came into effect after Christmas and was due to end around February 6.

It is expected that any extension to the restrictions would be subject to review part-way through.

The proposals are not believed to include further measures for schools.
