Coronavirus Northern Ireland: 13 further Covid-19 deaths recorded by DoH

The Department of Health has reported a further 13 coronavirus related deaths.

According to the latest update, 11 of the fatalities are said to have occurred within the current reporting period, and two outside of it.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 1,792, according to the DoH.

Thursday's dashboard update reports a further 592 positive cases of the virus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 102,410 since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the Department says 4,066 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

There are currently 768 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 67 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, ministers are meeting today to discuss school closures.

Pupils in Northern Ireland are set to remain off school until Monday March 8, according to BBC News NI.

It's also believed that only some year groups may go back to school on this date if a return is possible.

Education Minister Peter Weir is to bring forward a paper of recommendations to Stormont to be agreed by the Executive.

Schools across Northern Ireland closed for Christmas holidays in December but their closure was extended in a bid to help drive down new coronavirus cases.

Other options which could be discussed on Thursday include planning for a phased reopening of classrooms, with a continuation of some remote learning.
