Coronavirus Northern Ireland: 12 further Covid-19 related deaths recorded by DoH

The Department of Health has reported a further 12 coronavirus related deaths.

According to the latest update, 10 of the fatalities are said to have occurred within the current reporting period, and two outside of it.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 1,704, according to the DoH.

Friday's dashboard update reports a further 865 positive cases of the virus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 99,216 since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the Department say 5,534 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

There are currently 828 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 72 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Robin Swann has said he is "disgusted" with a Sinn Fein MLA's comments about a decision to seek military assistance to support health staff in hospitals.

More than 100 medically-trained military personnel are to support the health service in Northern Ireland as it continues to come under pressure from the coronavirus pandemic.

Sinn Fein MLA Pat Sheehan on Thursday told Stormont's health committee he was concerned the military would "get in the way of the real professionals".
