Coronavirus: No indoor family gathering but small weddings could go ahead outdoors

Families are still barred from meeting each other indoors, the Executive has ruled.

But from June 8 they could able to attend outdoor weddings in groups of 10 or fewer.

First Minister Arlene Foster and Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill made the announcement this afternoon and acknowledged the news about family meetings indoors was disappointing.

However, they urged public patience with the First Minister saying that "we know outside the virus does not stay around as long as inside".

The First and Deputy First Minister today announced a series of proposed lockdown relaxations.

The public can expect some easements on Covid-19 restrictions within 11 days "provided the R value does not increase above one".

They include:

  • Small marriages and civil partnership ceremonies outdoors
  • Attend to the needs of pets and non farm animals allowing for the training of horses and visits to dog groomers.
  • Outdoor sports court will be open.
  • Hotels will be able to take bookings with a time-frame to be announced next week.
  • Some non-food outdoor retail outlets will reopen, such as businesses selling cars
  • Some indoor non-food businesses with low footfall such as electrical stores, mobile phone shops and furniture stores can also reopen, as long as they have direct outdoor access.
