Coronavirus: NI woman hosting live yoga class for children on Facebook

A local yoga instructor is hosting Facebook yoga classes for children, as schools across Northern Ireland remain closed for most pupils due to Covid-19.

Anne Monaghan, from Co Fermanagh, teaches ten classes each week, which have now been moved to an online environment to minimise social interaction.

And today, she is hosting a children friendly yoga session, through her Facebook page at 12 noon.

Speaking to Belfast Live about the importance of yoga for children, Anne said she hosted an adult session on Friday which had over 3,600 views.

She said: "I train teachers across Northern Ireland to teach children how to do yoga in the classroom to relieve anxiety and promote calmness.

"Kids don’t need anything to take part today and adults can join in too. It’s important to stay busy and focused in these times and yoga promotes mental and physical health and resilience and concentration primarily working on our parasympathetic nervous system - the one that reduces stress and keeps us calm."
