Coronavirus NI: No Covid-19 related deaths reported by DoH in past seven days

No further coronavirus related deaths have been reported by the Department of Health in the last seven days.

According to the DoH's latest update, the death toll from coronavirus in Northern Ireland remains at 2,152.

Tuesday's dashboard also reports a further 75 positive cases of Covid-19 since yesterday, bringing the total number of positive cases to 122,282 since the start of the pandemic.

They also announced that a total of 1,647,207 vaccines have been administered in Northern Ireland to date.

Over the past seven days, the Department said 583 individuals have tested positive.

There are currently 29 Covid-19 confirmed inpatients in hospital and two in intensive care.

Yesterday saw a big step towards normality as a number of restrictions were further eased across the country such as indoor hospitality, hotels and tourist accommodation and the return of indoor visitor attractions.

Speaking ahead of reopenings, Health Minister Robin Swann said: "The COVID-19 threat has certainly not disappeared, as the emergence of the latest variant of concern underlines. However, there are many steps we can each take to protect ourselves and others. That includes, of course, getting your first and second vaccine doses when your turn comes.

"Keep following all the familiar public health advice on social distancing, hand washing and wearing a face covering. And remember that you will be at particular risk in crowded, cramped rooms, where ventilation is poor. Ventilation is even more important now that more indoor activities are permitted - a good supply of fresh air can help disperse the virus.

"Please keep following those restrictions that remain in place. This will help provide the breathing space we still need."

Speaking after receiving his second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine on Monday, Chief Medical Officer Dr Michael McBride stressed the importance of getting both doses of your coronavirus vaccine for greater protection.

He said: "A Public Health England study has found the vaccines are highly effective against B.1.617.2 variant after two doses. This underlines the need for people to come forward for their first and second doses as soon as they are available.

“Vaccines are preventing hospitalisations and saving lives.

“Don’t delay getting the vaccine or your second dose.”
