Coronavirus NI: Department of Health reports eight further deaths and 595 new cases

The Department of Health has reported a further eight coronavirus related deaths.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 760, the department says.

Friday's dashboard update reports a further 595 positive cases of the virus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 41,969 since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the Department says 4,160 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

There are currently 407 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 49 in intensive care.

It comes as coronavirus related deaths reported by NISRA have seen a significant surge with 66 recorded in the latest week.

The weekly bulletin for deaths “involving Covid-19” states that the total deaths figure “has now surpassed 1,000, reaching 1,053”.

The number of deaths in the week, from October 24-30, is higher than the last two bulletins which recorded 37 and 27 deaths.

The Agency says that of this total, 605 (57.5%) deaths took place in hospital, 375 (35.6%) in care homes, nine (0.9%) in hospices and 64 (6.1%) at residential addresses or other locations. The 384 deaths which occurred in care homes and hospices involved 90 separate establishments, NISRA states.
