Sixteen counties in Ireland have recorded zero new cases of the coronavirus, it has been revealed.
According to the latest breakdown from the Department of Health, just 10 counties saw increases in infections.
The figures were released on Monday evening on what has been a landmark day for the country in its fight against the spread of the disease.
The health chiefs announced that no new deaths linked to Covid-19 were reported in the 24 hours prior to 11am on Monday.
This was the first time since March 21 that no deaths were announced in the daily update.
A further 59 have contracted the virus, bringing the total number of infectionsin the Republic to 24,698.
The latest data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, recorded as of midnight on Saturday, showed many counties have done well in suppressing the virus.
Carlow, Donegal, Kerry, Kilkenny, Laois, Leitrim, Mayo, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow had no additional cases reported on Saturday.
