
A Conservative MP has said Boris Johnson faces “certain" defeat in a vote over how coronavirus rules are imposed if Opposition parties join with Tory rebels.
Steve Baker, who is leading calls for parliament to be given a vote before new laws come into force, claimed there were "plenty" of MPs who would back an amendment to the Coronavirus Act on this issue.
Meanwhile, one quarter of the UK population are set to be under local restrictions from Sunday evening, as Swansea and Cardiff prepare to introduce stricter measures at 6pm.
