Coronavirus new UK deaths include healthy 19-year-old with no underlying problems

A 19-year-old has become the youngest person in the UK to die of coronavirus despite having no underlying health conditions.

The teenager - chef Luca Di Nicola - was among 28 patients to have been killed despite having no pre-existing health problems.

His death was announced by NHS England this afternoon as the death toll for the UK hit 1,808.

NHS England reported 367 new deaths making a total of 1,651 in England alone.

Of the 367 new victims reported today, those who died were all in hospital and their ages ranged from 19 to 98.

All but 28 of the patients had underlying health conditions.

The 28 who did not were aged between 19 and 91.

Their families have been informed.

His family described him as "very healthy", although he did visit a GP with coronavirus symptoms before he died.

NHS England has also revealed that, of the 367 latest deaths, 122 happened in London, with 38 at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust alone.

Across the UK, the total of new deaths reported today is 393. Yesterday the number stood at 1,415.

The increase of 393 in the last 24 hours is more than double the increase of 180 across the previous day.

Today's figures include people who died in hospitals, but do not include those who passed away in their homes.

Confirmed victims of the deadly coronavirus pandemic in the UK so far have been aged between 18 and 105, official figures show.

The heartbreaking breakdown reveals that patients in their 20s and 30s have also died in hospital - bringing home the harsh reality that the cruel virus affects patients of all ages.

Tragically on March 22 officials confirmed that an 18-year-old with underlying health conditions died last week.

Last week, 21-year-old woman Chloe Middleton was thought to have become the youngest patient in the UK with no underlying problems to die from the virus.

Across Europe, today it was reported that a 12-year-old girl is believed to be the youngest person to die after contracting coronavirus.

The girl, who died at a hospital in Belgium, is among the youngest victims in the world.

His voice trembling, a distraught spokesman for Belgium's government announced the girl's death, telling reporters "it is an emotionally difficult moment because it involves a child".

Emmanuel Andre said medics were left deeply upset when the girl lost her fight for life on Monday.

Mr Andre was visibly upset while delivering the devastating news and then left the press conference, leaving a colleague to continue, Belgian media reported.
