Coronavirus: New hope in Bristol for Tier 2 as our Covid rate drops

Bristol's coronavirus rate has dropped significantly over the weekend and is no longer the highest in the South West.

Our city's rate per 100,000 people now stands at 140.5, which puts us in 157th in the country.

Meanwhile, Gloucester's has shot up to 168.8, which places the area in 109th place.

Both are significantly above the South West region's rate of 82.4, but, crucially, only slightly higher than England's rate of 148.7.

Bristol's Tier 3 status will be reviewed next week, when experts will be analysing our rate, hospital admissions and deaths.

No coronavirus fatalities were confirmed in Bristol or its neighbouring areas today (December 7).
