Coronavirus: Neighbours stops filming after emergency meeting called over pandemic

Neighbours has become the latest soap to cease filming in response to the global coronavirus outbreak, the Mirror can reveal.

A spokesperson revealed the cast and crew called a meeting to discuss how to deal with a 'specific concern' about the pandemic before the decision was taken.

The statement said: "Neighbours has decided to take a short break this week to ensure the production model in place can withstand any potential impact of the current COVID 19 situation.

"Today all cast and crew met to discuss this issue as a result of a specific concern about the pandemic. Production will resume on Monday as planned with no interruption to the on-air or delivery schedule. The health and well-being of everyone on the set of Neighbours will always be our priority."

It comes after British soap EastEnders also revealed production had ceased filming and weekly episodes would be reduced from four to two.

Episodes will now air on Mondays at 8pm and Tuesdays at 7:30pm only with immediate effect.
