Coronavirus: NCIS cancelled tonight and dramatic final episodes of season 17 cut

NCIS has been cancelled tonight and the dramatic final episodes have been cut.

The American cop show, which airs each week on CBS, has shut down production due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

However, they had mysteriously always planned to show a repeat of episode 2 from earlier in the season tonight.

Dr Jimmy Palmer actor, Brian Dietzen, announced on Twitter that production has been shut down for the remainder of the season.

The good news is that new episodes will air in March and into April - but four episodes from the end of the season have been scrapped.

Brian tweeted: "Unfortunately we’ll be shutting down production of NCIS for the remainder of the season after we wrap tomorrow. We’ll produce 20 of our 24 episode order.

"It’s been a tremendous year and we have a few more great episodes for you all. Thank you so much for all the support."

"We can’t do this show without you all watching and I appreciate you so much. I hope you enjoy the remaining shows. Sending you all many thanks, happiness and above all, health. Keep washing those hands!"

He added: "To be clear: we will air new episodes of NCIS through the end of the month and into April! And these episodes are gonna be pretty great. :)"

Worried fans began to ask if the entire show was cancelled, so Brian was forced to clarify the situation.

He explained: "We are done for the season. If the network picks the show up for another season, we’ll have 24 more new ones starting in the fall."

NCIS fans admitted they were gutted that the season will have less episodes but praised the decision to shut down production.

One viewer said: "Oh no. Totally understand but it makes me very sad, what a great season it has been!"

"Miss new episodes, but will watch the reruns and wait for next season. Take care and be safe," added another.

A third said: "Looking forward to seeing all of you in the final episodes of this season and more to come, hopefully, in Season 18."
