Coronavirus: Mum slammed for asking if she can visit family at Easter as she's 'not sick'

The UK is currently on lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic and we don't currently know when the restrictions will be lifted.

As such many people are getting restless staying home all day and some are considering breaking the rules laid out by the government.

One woman recently took to Mumsnet to ask fellow parents if it would be ok if she visited her family over the upcoming Easter weekend.

In a lengthy post the unnamed mum explained that she'd been quarantining with her partner and their eight-month-old child and weren't exhibiting any of the major symptoms of Covid-19, such as a fever or dry cough.

She continued to say that her parents were also "safe" so she thought it might be ok to go and see them.

"I live 30 mins drive from my parents who are in their mid 40s, they also live with my younger brother. We are normally very close and we haven't seen each other in about a month (since law have suggested that we should stay at home)," the woman wrote.

"We stay at home, my husband goes shopping once every two weeks, my baby who is eight  months old hasn't been out for the last month.

"We understand the risk of going out and we even stopped walking together or exercising... I am wondering if in UK we are allowed to visit my family on Easter Sunday? I am asking because I know they are safe, we aren't sick either."

Worryingly she added that plenty of people she knew had been disobeying the lockdown rules.

"I am very annoyed because I have friends who visit their families or siblings who they not live with all the fricking time and I am sticking to this quarantine but a little bit fed up now knowing that people still visit their families and I haven't.

"I really want to go to see them on Sunday, what you guys think?"

More than 100 people responded to her post, with many branding her "selfish" for even considering putting her parents at risk.

One person commented: "Do you really need to ask? Part of our wider family did lots of mixing and a grandfather has just died."

Another said: "No! All of us would like to go out, but we can't. It isn't a suggestion to stay home, it's an order."

A third replied: "Sorry to sound harsh but.....How many times do you have to hear it? NO NO NO NO NO NO.

"Tell your selfish, covidiot friends to stay home too. Why the f**k should me and mine pay the price for their stupidity. They would no longer be my friends having shown their true colours."

Someone else joked: "Of course you can, the rules don't apply to you and everyone knows viruses don't spread on Easter Sunday."

Coronavirus Lockdown: What are the rules?

Stay at home

  • Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home)
  • If you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at all times
  • Wash your hands as soon as you get home

Do not meet others, even friends or family.

You can spread the virus even if you don’t have symptoms.
