Coronavirus: Motsi Mabuse films German competition Let's Dance without audience

Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse was forced to film the German version of the competition show Let’s Dance without a live audience.

The 38-year-old professional dancer, who originally hails from South Africa, is in the middle of recording the 13th series of the show alongside judges Joachim Llambi and Jorge Gonzalez.

As with the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing , on which the German series is modelled, the episodes are usually filmed in front of a live audience.

Bosses behind Let’s Dance, which is aired on TV channel RTL, have since banned members of the public from attending live shows over fears of spreading coronavirus.

The show’s presenter Daniel Hartwich said “we sent the audience home,” but revealed that it wasn’t quite the same without their cheering viewers.

Before the show was aired Motsi - who is the older sister of dancer Oti Mabuse- took to social media to urge fans to take precautions.

On March 15, Germany sealed its borders after more than 4,500 cases of the coronavirus were reported in the country.

Just a few days earlier, authorities in the German capital of Berlin banned all events with more than 1,000 attendees until mid-April.

The television and entertainment world has been rocked by the coronavirus pandemic, with many shows halting production in a bid to stop the spread.

Several chat shows such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon initially filmed without an audience before eventually suspending production all together.

As for British television, Saturday night favourites Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have hinted Saturday Night Takeaway won't return next week owing to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to Sky News, ITV bosses who oversee live shows such as Dancing On Ice have also suggested they would prefer shows to go ahead without live audiences.

Producers will continue to assess TV productions as cases of the coronavirus continue to be reported across the country.
