Coronavirus: Microsoft launches disease tracker that shows worldwide cases in real-time

With coronavirus cases rapidly increasing around the world, it can be tricky to stay up-to-date on the global spread of the disease.

Now, Microsoft has launched a new coronavirus tracker on its Bing platform, that shows worldwide cases in real-time.

The tracker aggregates data from trusted sources including the World Heatlh Organisation (WHO), the US Centres fro Disease Control ad Prevention (CDC) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

The main dashboard of the tracker shows the total confirmed cases, as well as a breakdown of the active cases, recovered cases and fatal cases.

You can also tap on a particular country to view localised information, as well as the latest news stories and videos from that location.

Best of all, the tracker is available on both desktop and mobile, making it easy to use when at home or on the go.

As it stands, the total confirmed cases of coronavirus stands at 170,489, with 6,521 fatal cases to date.

Meanwhile, in the UK there has been 1,391 cases so far, with 35 fatal cases.

COVID-19 has now been classed as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation.

Tedros Adhanom, WHO Director-General, explained: “Pandemic is not a word to use lightly or carelessly. It is a word that, if misused, can cause unreasonable fear, or unjustified acceptance that the fight is over, leading to unnecessary suffering and death.

“Describing the situation as a pandemic does not change WHO’s assessment of the threat posed by this virus. It doesn’t change what WHO is doing, and it doesn’t change what countries should do.

“We have never before seen a pandemic sparked by a coronavirus. This is the first pandemic caused by a coronavirus.

“And we have never before seen a pandemic that can be controlled, at the same time."
