Coronavirus: Michael Eavis donates thousands of hand sanitisers and face masks to NHS

Michael and Emily Eavis have donated 'thousands of litres of hand sanitiser, face masks and latex gloves' to frontline NHS workers.

The essential medical supplies were originally meant to be used at Worthy Farm in June for Glastonbury Festival's 50th anniversary bash, but organisers broke the sad news last week the event had to be cancelled amid the coronavirus pandemic.

On Tuesday, March 24, bosses at Avon and Somerset Police praised Michael Eavis, 84, and his daughter Emily Eavis, 40, for the donation.

During a post on Twitter, they said: "On behalf of the A&S Local Resilience Forum we’d like to extend a huge thank you to Michael &  @emilyeavis  for providing frontline emergency service workers & NHS staff with thousands of litres of hand sanitiser, gloves & face masks due to be used  @glastonbury  2020.  #SafeTogether."

Sir Paul McCartney, Kendrick Lamar and Diana Ross had all been confirmed as headliners this year.

But during a joint statement on March 18, Michael and Emily wrote: "We are so sorry to announce this, but we are going to have to cancel Glastonbury 2020.

"Tickets for this year will roll over to next year."

People who bagged tickets have two options: they can either roll their £50 deposit over to next year to guarantee a place at Glastonbury 2021, or they can claim a refund on the deposit through See Tickets.
