Coronavirus: Mesut Ozil's heartfelt message to Arsenal fans as Premier League suspended

Mesut Ozil has offered his support to followers amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

Ozil took to social media following news that all Premier League and EFL action will be postponed until next month at the earliest.

Arsenal have been particularly affected, with manager Mikel Arteta having been diagnosed with COVID-19.

The club's players and staff have subsequently gone into self-isolation.

The situation prompted Ozil to write a heartfelt message on social media.

Ozil wrote : "Football does not matter right now. The health and wellbeing of everyone is far more important than everything else. Guys, take all the precautions you can - be mindful and considerate of everyone, especially those who are at high risk.

"As we go through this global issue, we should not forget to say thank you to all doctors, nurses and scientists etc worldwide, who are helping to keep this virus from spreading. They are under high pressure in the upcoming weeks & deserve our respect and gratitude."

In response, one follower wrote: "You keep assisting. Thank you for the words of advice"

Another said: "Mesut, on behalf of everyone, can you give Mikel a cuddle for us? Cheers Boss."

As well as Arsenal, four other Premier League clubs - as well as Juventus and Real Madrid - have either had all or some of their players and staff put themselves into self-insolation.

The Premier League and English Football League had planned to keep the weekend's fixtures going ahead as planned.

But following the news of Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, they made the decision on Friday morning to postpone all games to April 4th at the earliest, while the Scottish Premiership has also decided to put a stop to its fixtures until further notice.
