Coronavirus: Marathon runner, 28, coughed up blood and couldn't move in 13-day ICU stay

A healthy marathon runner has described having coronavirus as "being like in a car crash" and said that he "couldn't move".

Mark Stubbs, 28, appeared on Good Morning Britain via video link as he revealed that, despite having strong lungs, he was left coughing up blood and was hospitalised in ICU for 13 days.

Speaking to hosts Piers Morgan and Lorraine Kelly, he said: My fever was up to 40 degrees and slightly higher, which was highly uncomfortable... it's not an exaggeration to say that [it's like being] in a car crash."

He continued: "In three days I was unable to breathe, lungs taken over, coughing up blood."

Mark continued to say that people don't realise that you can be really healthy and still get coronavirus.

"You may survive and get through it but that old person who doesn't get that ventilator won't," he warned.

He said that he was now recovering but was still breathless, sleeping a lot and conceded that his liver had "taken a bit of a battering".

Dr Hilary also addressed his comments, admitting that what Mark had said was "extremely worrying".

"You're a marathon runner [and have] strong lungs... but you couldn't breathe on your own," he said. "What you're telling the nation is so important for those idiots who were going out in mass gatherings."
