Coronavirus map shows Bristol neighbourhoods with recent deaths

Seven neighbourhoods in the Bristol region saw coronavirus deaths in July, according to new figures.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has broken down registered Covid-19 deaths with a data map of small areas, which it updated on August 28 to include July deaths.

None of the areas in and around Bristol had more than one Covid-19 death. The map shows neighbourhoods where those who died were residents, not the places where they died.

One person died with the virus in each of Headley Park, Longwell Green & Oldland Common, Upper Horfield and Patchway.

In North Somerset, there was one coronavirus death in South Worle, West Wick & St Georges, as well as one in Clevedon North & Walton.

Only one person died with the illness in Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES). They lived in Walcot.

Since the start of the pandemic, the neighbourhood with the most coronavirus deaths in the region is Westbury-on-Trym.

Of the 25 deaths so far in Westbury-on-Trym, 17 came in April, and none in June or July.

The ONS defines a death involving Covid-19 as one where the virus was the underlying cause, or mentioned on the death certificate as a contributory factor. See its data map here.

On August 25, a patient died with coronavirus in a Bristol hospital for the first time since early July.

The death happened at Southmead Hospital, according to NHS figures released on August 28.

Before this, there had been no Covid-19 deaths at Southmead Hospital since June 22 and none at Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) or Weston General Hospital since July 10.

Five new coronavirus cases were confirmed yesterday in Bristol, following a rise of 15 the day before.

North Somerset saw a daily rise of 17 new cases, South Gloucestershire had two and B&NES had four.
