Coronavirus: Man uses cherry picker to visit his mother on third floor of care home

A man from Ohio used a cherry picker in order to visit his grandmother on the third floor of a care home.

Charley Adams had been unable to visit his 80-year-old mother amid social distancing advice, so came up with an alternative way to see her.

Mr Adams used the cherry picker he uses as part of his tree service business and drove over there to surprise her.

The arborist said that his mother had been feeling lonely since coronavirus restrictions became enforced.

“Her spirits were kind of down because she’s used to being able to get out, go places and do things. And so I just had the idea that I’d bring the bucket truck over,” Mr Adams told CNN.

“I called her, and I told her to come look out the window — and there I was.”

The picture of Mr Adams visiting his mother was taken by his wife and then posted to Facebook by his cousin, where it attracted a big response from people all over America.

“Now with all the attention, she’s getting lots of calls from family and friends from all over the country. And so it’s been great,” he said.

According to a tracking project hosted by Johns Hopkins University, upwards of 189,633 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the US. The death toll has reached at least 4,081.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended a two-week ban on gatherings of more than 50 people as part of the battle to contain the spread of the contagion.
