A husband who had been in lockdown in a carehome due to the Covid-19 pandemic surprised his wife on her birthday with a reunion at their home.
Jerry Lindell, 84, had been rehabilitating at Meeker Manor carehome in Litchfield, Minnesota, US after receiving hospital treatment when he returned home to see his wife, Beverley with a bunch of flowers.
It was the longest period the couple had spent apart in 63 years of marriage, KARE11 reported.
Loriee Barnes, the couple’s daughter, helped Mr Lindell organise the surprise on 26 March – Mrs Lindell’s birthday.
Mrs Lindell appeared visibly shaken when her husband first walked through the door to greet her.
She said: “I can’t hug you, though”. “Why can’t you?” Mr Lindell asked as he moved towards his wife to give her an embrace.
Ms Lindell can then be seen breaking down in tears of joy as she wraps around her husband.
“I just thought we weren’t supposed to hug,” Beverley later told KARE11. “But I couldn’t wait to grab him, so we hugged each other, and I cried and cried and cried.”
Mr and Mrs Lindell met aged just 18 and married two years later. After more than six decades married, the couple said they are more in love than ever.
Ms Lindell said she took the bus to see her husband at his carehome every day before it was placed on lockdown due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
She said she missed her husband so much during the time they were apart that it made her cry.
Meanwhile, Mr Lindell said her would “never forget” the moment he walked through the door of his home and saw his wife on the day of their reunion.
“I wouldn’t let him go,” Ms Lindell added. “He’s mine to keep.”
