Coronavirus: Man City stars locked out of training ground amid further outbreak concerns

Manchester City's players are still not training at the club's £200million City Football Academy complex amid concerns over the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.

Pep Guardiola and his first-team squad have not trained at the CFA - adjacent to the Etihad Stadium - since all elite level football in England was suspended last Friday.

City's players have been given additional time off while the football authorities discuss how to proceed against the backdrop of the pandemic.

Guardiola's players are understood to have been given personalised fitness programmes to follow remotely, while City's training ground is out of bounds.

It is understood the training ground could be out of action for a further week, until March 24, until the club are satisfied it is safe for players to return there.

Academy players are understood to be due back at City's training ground early next week, but that return date could also be put back, given the uncertainty over the ongoing situation.

Defender Benjamin Mendy was at the centre of a coronavirus scare, with City confirming a family member of a first-team player was admitted to hospital with symptoms of a respiratory illness.

The family member was tested for Covid-19 and Mendy went into self-isolating as a precaution, although the test ultimately came back negative at the weekend.

Mendy took to Instagram to thank fans for their support and to remind them to follow guidance from the World Health Organisation on the steps to take to avoid the spread of the virus.

City's players have taken to social media to document how they are spending their time while the training ground is effectively on lockdown.

David Silva posted pictures of him and young son Mateo doing fitness exercises at home.

As many City staff as possible have been switched from the Etihad Campus and City Football Academy to working from home, over several days, as the club addresses the ongoing coronavirus issue.
