Coronavirus: Love Island's Dr Alex calls for free hospital car parks for NHS staff

Former Love Island star Dr Alex George has called for free car parking for NHS staff.

The doctor, 30, has been working hard with the rest of NHS workers as the ongoing coronavirus pandemic wreaks havoc worldwide.

Taking to social media, Alex hit out at the car-parking charges that health workers face as they go about these vital roles at this pivotal time.

Writing on Twitter, Alex commented: "Controversial but maybe this is a good time for hospital car parks to be free for NHS staff? Retweet if you agree."

He then went on to share a message that he had received regarding the issue.

The message reads: "Should be free anyway. Bournemouth hospital staff parked at the local leisure centre, which is CLOSED, came out to find themselves clamped!!"

Naturally, the issue prompted some passionate views from Alex's followers, who agreed more needed to be done for NHS staff.

One wrote in the replies: "Absolutely disgusting that no thought at all for our fantastic NHS fighting this every day shouldn't be having too worry about that."

Another noted: "NHS car parks should be free to all, staff shouldn't payn neither should the sick or those visiting ill friends and relatives.

Elsewhere, a different follower tweeted: "I was NHS 4 years and will be coming back to complete paramedic training and every month I had my parking permit reducted from my monthly salary, which as a Band 3 is a large chunk!! (£15) a month.

"I was paying to go into work just so I could help people. Has to change asap!!!"

A fourth echoed this sentiment: "Absolutely disgraceful considering the shocking times we are in."

Finally, one concluded: "They should always be free for staff, I think it's insulting that they have to pay. Who on earth thought that up, it beggars belief."

Alex has been one of many NHS workers to share selfies of himself in a short break from tireless efforts to battle the COVID-19 crisis.

However, he has also taken to his YouTube page to debunk some myths surrounding the virus.

Keep on Alex, we're here cheering you on!
