Coronavirus lockdown will continue for another three weeks says UK Government

The current coronavirus lockdown in the UK has been extended for at least another three weeks, the Government has announced.

UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab confirmed the news in his daily briefing this evening.

Raab confirmed that the extension was put in place given the fact that any relaxation of the current measures "would risk damage to both public health and the economy".

"We're at a delicate and dangerous stage of this pandemic", the Foreign Secretary said.

He added: "Now is not the moment to give coronavirus a second chance".

The Foreign Secretary is deputising for Prime Minister Boris Johnson while he recovers from coronavirus.

He was joined by the Government’s chief medical officer, Chris Whitty, and its chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance.
