Coronavirus: Locals drive 100km in lockdown from Meath to Armagh for bizarre reason and share explanation to angry Gardai

Locals drove a staggering 100km from the Republic of Ireland into the North during the week for a bizarre reason and were forced to share their explanation with Gardai.

Officers on patrol stopped a car in Wilkinstown, Meath who found 26 drums of kerosene in the back of the vehicle.

What's even worse, the non-essential journey took them 61 miles from the Royal County and into Armagh.

Both driver and passenger live locally in Meath and Gardai seized both the vehicle and the drums of kerosene.

A Garda spokesman warned: "We will prepare an investigation file following this COVID breach which will be sent for direction.

"Unless your journey is essential please follow the government advice and stay at home."
