Coronavirus live updates as UK warned we may live with covid for years

We are live once again today with all the important news and information from the coronavirus pandemic.

Our rolling coverage will bring you up to date news about the virus and the impact on our lives.

Yesterday, the country was given a stark warning that we may have to live with Covid-19 for years.

Deputy Chief Medical Adviser, Professor Jonathan Van-Tam said we will "only be out of this" when we get a vaccine.

And he appeared to caution against hope raised over the weekend about a vaccine being just around the corner.

Professor Van-Tam warned life could be abnormal "for years" as he says people must brace for a second wave and the possibility of no vaccine ever being found.

He said: "We absolutely don't want this to get out of control again.

"We may have to live and learn to live with this virus."

Yesterday the government's official death toll in the country stood at 34, 796 - but there is a widespread belief that this number is actually significantly higher.

Today the Office for National Statistics will publish new data that will give a clearer indication of how many people have lost their lives to this virus.
