Lewis Hamilton has spent the past week in self-isolation after Idris Elba‘s positive test for coronavirus, the six-time Formula One world champion has revealed.
The Briton was pictured in attendance at a charity event with Elba and Sophie Trudeau, wife of the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has also since confirmed a positive test for Covid-19.
Hamilton reassured that he’s experienced “zero symptoms” and is “feeling healthy”, although he has not yet been tested as “other people need it more than I do”.
“Hey guys, I hope you’re all staying positive, and keeping busy and healthy,” Hamilton wrote on Twitter. “There’s been some speculation about my health, after I was at an event where two people later tested positive for coronavirus.
“I wanted to let you know that I’m doing well, feeling healthy and working out twice a day. I have zero symptoms and it’s now been 17 days since I saw Sophie and Idris.
“I did speak to my doctor and double-checked if I needed to take a test but the truth is, there is a limited amount of tests and there are people who need it more than I do, especially when I wasn’t showing any symptoms at all.
“So what I’ve done is keep myself isolated this past week, actually since practice was cancelled last Friday.”
The season-opening Australian Grand Prix was cancelled after a McLaren team member tested positive for coronavirus. Races in Bahrain, Vietnam, Zandvoort and Barcelona have all since been postponed, while the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix has been cancelled.
