Coronavirus: Lewis Capaldi reacts to video of quarantined Italian singing 'Someone You Loved' from balcony amid lockdown

Lewis Capaldi has responded to a video showing someone singing his song from their balcony while on quarantine in Italy.

The country is the worst to be affected by the coronavirus pandemic, with more than 17,000 confirmed cases and a death toll of approximately 1,260.

After Italian citizens were instructed to go into lockdown, many videos circulated social media showing people singing and dancing in an attempt to keep morale high.

One such video, posted on Twitter by Alasdair Mackenzie, shows an unseen person singing Capaldi’s Brit Award-winning song “Someone You Loved”.

Capaldi retweeted the video, writing: “Amazing stuff! Stay safe.”

Another video of Italian tenor Maurizio Marcini "serenading" a town on lockdown in Florence with a rendition of "Nessun Dorma" has also gone viral in the wake of the coronavirus quarantine.

Spain has become the second country in Europe to impose a nationwide lockdown as part of its effort to slow the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The news came as the UK’s death toll from coronavirus nearly doubled, by rising from 11 to 21, and the UK government was reportedly preparing to ban mass gatherings from next week.

Numerous events from the world of entertainment are being postponed or cancelled entirely as the virus spreads.
