Coronavirus: Leith Bank of Scotland branch shuts after staff member tests positive for virus

A branch of the Bank of Scotland in Leith has been forced to close after a staff member tested positive for coronavirus.

The branch, in the Newkirkgate Shopping Centre, closed on Friday as a number of staff went into self-isolation.

A spokesperson for the bank confirmed they had closed to protect the health and wellbeing of customers.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live , a Bank of Scotland spokesperson said: “We have temporarily closed the Leith branch in Edinburgh after a colleague was diagnosed with Covid-19.

"Our priority is the wellbeing of our colleagues and customers and we continue to follow Government guidance.

"As a number of our colleagues are now self-isolating we’re unable to open the branch, but we’ll reopen as soon as we can .”

It is not known when the branch will be able to reopen.

It comes as Scotland reported this highest ever new cases on Friday, with 558 confirmed in the last 24 hours.

More than 125 students in Edinburgh, mainly from Napier University, have confirmed cases of the virus and hundreds are in self-isolation.

Extra police will also be on Scotland's streets this evening as bars and restaurants are put under a new 10pm curfew designed to slow the spread of the virus.
