Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that a number of the club’s players have been quarantined after showing symptoms of coronavirus.
“We’ve had a few players that have shown symptoms and signs,” he said. “We’ve followed procedures and they have been kept away from the squad.”
The manager did not elaborate as to which players are currently self-isolated, and says that they are not yet considered to need testing judging by their symptoms.
Leicester, third in the Premier League, are due to face Watford away from home in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Rodgers said it would be a shame if the game had to be held behind closed doors, but that social and health concerns would dictate procedure.
“It would be a shame [if the Watford game were postponed], but the public’s health is the most important in all of this.
“The game is all about the players and the fans and if you have one of those not there, it’s obviously not the same.”
The midweek clash between Man City and Arsenal was postponed after the Gunners had players in quarantine.
At present, all Premier League games are scheduled to go ahead as normal across the weekend.
The top flight in Spain has seen all games cancelled for the next two weeks, while sport in general has seen postponements increase on Thursday as the globe battles to contain the spread of coronavirus.
