Coronavirus: Latest UK death toll released by Public Health England

A further 39 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in England to 167.

There have also been six deaths in Scotland, three in Wales and one in Northern Ireland.

The number of deaths across the UK is up 40 on the equivalent total for yesterday. This is the biggest day-on-day rise since the outbreak began. Those who died were aged between 50 and 99 years old and had underlying health conditions, the NHS have said.

It has been confirmed that one of the people who died was a patient at the Royal Gloucester NHS Foundation Trust.

As of yesterday (March 19), both Bristol and South Gloucestershire had 12 positive tests of coronavirus.

North Somerset still only had four while there there were 3,269 confirmed cases across the country.

Today’s statement from NHS England said: “A further 39 people, who tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in England to 167.

“Patients were aged between 50 and 99 years old and had underlying health conditions.

“Their families have been informed.”
