Coronavirus latest: Three more Ayrshire cases as deaths in Scotland double

Three more Ayrshire residents have been diagnosed with Coronavirus today.

The Scottish Government's confirmation means that the total number of confirmed people with the deadly virus has risen to twelve.

A total of 226 Scottish tests have been confirmed as positive.

Six people have died of the disease in the country.

It comes after two inmates at Kilmarnock prison test positive for coronavirus.

A boss at Bowhouse confirmed this afternoon that two prisoners were suspected of having COVID-19.

The men are now being isolated in their cell and prison chiefs are now taking every step possible to keep staff and other inmates safe.

Pamela Swan, Deputy Director at HMP Kilmarnock said: “Two prisoners who were suspected of having COVID-19 have now proved positive.

"They have been isolated in their cells and are being cared for by NHS Ayrshire & Arran, our healthcare partner.

"We are now waiting for further guidance from the NHS as to the next steps that we need to take and we will take every measure possible to keep our staff and prisoners safe.”
