Coronavirus latest: Number of confirmed cases in Bristol rises again as UK death toll passes 12,000

Bristol now has 354 confirmed coronavirus cases following a rise of 21 from yesterday's reported figures.

New figures published by Public Health England today (Tuesday, April 14) also revealed  South Gloucestershire  has 219 cases while the number of people known to have been infected with the virus in North Somerset has jumped to 120.

It's likely the real figure is in the thousands however because the government is currently only testing certain patients and some  NHS  workers.

Covid-19- related deaths across the country have climbed to 12,107 after 778 more patients died.

In other coronavirus news, scientific advisers for the government will meet to review lockdown measures and whether people should be advised to wear face masks outside.

The BBC reports the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) will discuss a range of issues at its coronavirus meeting today.

It will look at hospital admissions, intensive care capacity, the approcoronaviruach to testing and the effectiveness of lockdown measures.

Meanwhile, Bristol's director of public health was warned that the number of coronavirus cases in the Bristol area will continue rising for at least another fortnight.
