Coronavirus latest: Maximum of five people at West Dunbartonshire funerals

A maximum of five people will be able to attend cremation services and burials within West Dunbartonshire Council facilities.

The local authority has issued the rules following Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s announcement on Monday night that stringent measures have been implemented to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

A statement from the council reads: “This decision to restrict attendance is among a range of measures being implemented to limit the spread of the Covid-19 including asking guests to refrain from handshaking, and the removal of song books and the book of remembrance.

“We understand this is a difficult time for families and apologise for any inconvenience or upset this may cause.  We will continue to work closely with them to fully support them and make arrangements in a sensitive way.”
