Coronavirus latest: Confirmed cases rise in update from UK Government

The Government has confirmed a rise of more than 200 confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK.

The Department of Health and Social Care tweeted at 2pm today (March 13) that 32,771 people have been tested and 798 of those were positive.

Among those cases, 10 patients have died.

The figures from 24 hours previously were 590 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and eight deaths in the UK, meaning a jump of 208.

This is the largest day-on-day increase since the outbreak began.

One week ago, on March 6, the total number of cases stood at 163. Today’s total of 798 is almost five times higher.

Public Health England has confirmed three cases in Bristol, although Bristol City Council disputes this and says there are just two.

It comes a day after University of Bristol confirmed a student has Covid-19 and is self-isolating after returning from overseas.

We also revealed yesterday six students at the university are self-isolating in a house off Whiteladies Road in Clifton as they suspect they may have the illness.

There has also been controversy this morning over a Medequip driver delivering medical supplies to Bristol hospitals, care homes and patient’s addresses on March 9 and 10 – after flying from Rome on March 8.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health and Social Care has been forced to address rumours people can self-check for coronavirus by holding their breath.
