Nearly 30 schools in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire have had positive tests for coronavirus among their students or staff since term started - with more reporting "suspected" cases.
This comes after coronavirus cases were confirmed in several schools in the past two days.
After less than three weeks back in the classroom, scores of pupils and staff are now self isolating following a turbulent start to the term.
Families struggling to access coronavirus tests have also added to the number of kids unable to attend classrooms after testing problems have been reported in Bristol.
The exact number of pupils and staff forced to self-isolate as a result of the outbreaks is not known, but at least 27 schools across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire have been hit by coronavirus so far.

The schools at which Covid-19 cases have been confirmed are as follows:
Bristol
We are aware of 15 schools in Bristol that have been hit by the virus. They are the following:
Redmaids’ High School in the Westbury-on-Trym and Henleaze ward. Bristol City Council said the school has had two confirmed cases, year 10 and 2 staff self-isolating.
Colston’s School in the Easton ward. One case has been confirmed by the council, with 21 students self-isolating.
St Brendan's College in Brislington. A student at the large sixth form college has tested positive. 103 students and seven staff are self-isolating.
Cotham School. More than 200 pupils were taken out of lessons and sent home in the middle of the school day on Thursday after after a pupil in their year group tested positive for coronavirus.
Oasis Academy Brightstowe in Shirehampton has told parents not to be "alarmed" after a Year 7 pupil was confirmed as having COVID-19 on Monday, September 21. The Year group is isolating as a result of this.
St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School, Bristol's biggest in terms of pupil population, has sent home all of Year 11 after a case was confirmed
- Two Mile Hill Primary School in Kingsway - two students tested positive and 160 people of mixed ages were self-isolating. The school is now fully open.
Shirehampton Primary School had a case confirmed on Thursday, September 10. One Year 6 child has been diagnosed with the virus and the entire year group is self-isolating for 14 days.
John William Oasis Academy in Hengrove had one case confirmed on Thursday, September 10. All of its Year 7 cohort were asked to isolate.
Bedminster Down School in Bishopsworth has confirmed a coronavirus case in its "school community" and its Year 9 students must self-isolate as a result of this. Bristol City Council said on Friday the school had had two confirmed cases.
Compass Point Primary School had a case confirmed on Friday, September 11. Students at the Bedminster school were sent home and told to isolate there for 14 days after someone in their "pod" tested positive for coronavirus. Staff who had been teaching the Year 6 pod have also been sent home and told to self-isolate. In total one case has been confirmed and 29 children and three staff members are isolating.
Bristol City Council confirmed a coronavirus case at Elmfield School for Deaf Children in the Southmead ward. The school has one case and 19 students are self-isolating.
Coronavirus was confirmed at Bristol Brunel Academy in the Eastville ward by the council as well. The entirety of year eight are self-isolating.
Clifton College confirmed a case last week.
Air Balloon Primary School, in St George, forced an entire Year Five class to self-isolate before a positive coronavirus test was confirmed - being one of the first Bristol schools to close a class before a positive test
Winterbourne Academy, Winterbourne. One student tested positive for Covid. The year group of the affected child is not known. Students in direct contact with the pupil asked to self isolate until October 1.
Pupils are also self isolating at Cheddar Grove Primary School in Bedminster. The school has not had any confirmed cases but has one suspected case.
A student at the University of the West of England has also tested positive for the virus.
South Gloucestershire
South Gloucestershire Council said on Friday, September 18 that three schools in the area have had a positive case of Covid-19. However, it has now been confirmed a fourth school has been affected.
- Kings Forest Primary School in Kingswood - one Year 1 student has tested positive and 28 people are self-isolating. The pupil first came down with symptoms the week beginning on September 7.
Culverhill School, in Yate - Culverhill School has 71 pupils self isolating. The positive case there was reported on September 14.
Tockington Manor School
Charfield Primary School. The council confirmed one Year 4 student has tested positive for coronavirus at the school, with 31 students being sent home as a result. The pupil first came down with symptoms last Thursday, September 17.
North Somerset
BristolLive asked North Somerset Council for information on outbreaks at local schools, but no information was provided.
We are aware of cases at seven schools in the area:

Churchill Academy and Sixth Form in North Somerset confirmed a case on Tuesday, September 8. 57 kids were forced to self-isolate following a confirmed case.
Hans Price Academy in Weston-super-Mare saw a teacher test positive on Monday, September 7. The school remained open.
Bournville Primary School. Two hundred students at the Weston-super-Mare primary school have been told to self isolate after four members of staff tested positive for Covid 19.
- Gordano school in Portishead - one pupil tested positive and 41 students are having to quarantine for two weeks as a result, together with two staff members.
- Nailsea School - the school has confirmed two positive cases, with one of them being a staff member. The school said the second coronavirus case was unrelated to the first one, which saw pupils in year groups 8 and 9 told to self-isolate after a positive test among the student body.
Kingshill Church School, in Nailsea. A year five class has been told to self isolate after a fellow student tested positive.
Backwell School. Dozens of pupils are self-isolating after a child tested positive for coronavirus. In a letter to parents, he confirmed all pupils who have been in direct, prolonged contact with the infected youngster have been sent home.
North Somerset Council said in a statement: "There are a small number of schools that have experienced confirmed cases of Covid-19 in North Somerset.
"However, this number can change at very short notice as possible or confirmed cases are shared with North Somerset Council.
"Each situation, whether a single case or number of cases, is assessed, and appropriate public health support is provided as required for that particular setting.
"The number of students and staff who have tested positive is difficult to specify because individuals may become symptomatic and seek a test at any time."
