Coronavirus: Lanarkshire sees its first Covid-19 death in two months

LANARKSHIRE saw its first confirmed coronavirus death for more than two months.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed one new death in Scotland yesterday - the 2500th - which was the first in Lanarkshire since July 5.

In total, 354 people have now died from Covid-19 in Lanarkshire, including 169 in North Lanarkshire and 185 in South Lanarkshire.

The news comes as another 59 positive tests in Lanarkshire were confirmed yesterday - up from just eight the previous day.

Across the region, 3426 people have now tested positive for coronavirus, with 32 in North Lanarkshire and 27 in South Lanarkshire announced today.

Those results came from 20 tests take on Monday, September 14, five taken on Sunday, September 13, 29 taken on Saturday, September 12, three taken on Thursday, September 10 and two taken on Tuesday, September 8.

Only Greater Glasgow and Clyde (101) saw more positive tests announced yesterday than Lanarkshire.

In Scotland, 267 new positive tests were confirmed, bringing the total to 23,016.

Last week, new coronavirus restrictions were introduced in Lanarkshire following an increase in cases before the so-called “rule of six” was introduced across the UK on Monday.

Since the start of September, 466 new positive tests have been confirmed in Lanarkshire, compared to just 174 for the whole of August.
