Coronavirus: Kilmarnock petrol station selling hand sanitiser for £20 after town runs out

A Kilmarnock petrol garage is selling hand sanitiser for £20.

Jet on Hurlford Avenue, just off Hurlford Road, has been selling the anti-bacterial liquid at a mark-up price amid a shortage in the town.

Shoppers across the country have been panic-buying the item along with toilet roll, paracetamol and hand wash.

Hand sanitiser typically sells for a few pounds, but has become a rare commodity in the past week.

In recent days every single shop in the town centre has sold out of hand-sanitiser amid fears surrounding the coronavirus.

Boots, Savers, Semi-Chem, Home Bargains and Poundland in Kilmarnock had all sold out of hand sanitiser on Friday with many shops forced to place signs in the window saying they had none left.

Hand wash was completely sold out in Asda, Kilmarnock yesterday evening.

One case of coronavirus has been detected in Ayrshire, the Scottish Government have confirmed.

A Kilmarnock man was tested for the deadly disease after returning home from south-east Asia recently.

Medics have since given the man the all clear.
