Coronavirus kills four people in Bristol region as nearly 200 new cases are found

The Bristol Region has suffered another four coronavirus-related deaths, according to official figures.

The deaths took place in Bristol and North Somerset, which both recorded two new deaths in their update to Public Health England.

It means that there have now been 527 Covid-related deaths in Bristol and 329 in North Somerset.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 1,465 coronavirus-related deaths in the wider Bristol region.

On top of this, another 199 new cases of the virus were recorded across the area today.

Bristol recorded the highest number with 69. It was followed by North Somerset with 53.

South Gloucestershire recorded 46 new cases while there were another 31 in Bath and North East Somerset.

The Government said a further 182 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Thursday, bringing the UK total to 135,803.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 160,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Thursday, there had been a further 36,710 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

Government data up to September 22 shows that of the 93,274,224 Covid jabs given in the UK, 48,674,154 were first doses, a rise of 29,462 on the previous day.

Some 44,600,070 were second doses, an increase of 44,065.

Here are today's Government figures on positive coronavirus tests in Bristol and surrounding areas (total since start of pandemic, with daily increase in brackets):

  • City of Bristol: 58,640 (+69)
  • South Gloucestershire : 29,769 (+46)
  • North Somerset : 19,251 (+53)
  • Bath and North East Somerset : 17,475 (+31)
