Coronavirus: Kate Garraway gives GMB update on husband Derek's 'challenging' condition

Kate Garraway has returned to host ITV's Good Morning Britain and has issued an update about her husband's condition in hospital.

Derek Draper continues to be in a minimally-conscious state after fighting off the coronavirus.

Derek, 53, a former Labour Party adviser, was rushed to hospital with Covid-19 and entered a coma on April 5, reports Birmingham Live.

Since exiting the coma, Derek is yet to fully regain consciousness, with Kate returning to GMB last month as doctors urged her to "get on with life".

She routinely and regularly issues updates on social media, and last night teased Instagram followers with news on Derek.

This morning (August 10) the ITV1 presenter - who shares two children with her husband, Darcey and Billy - said: "It is a difficult balance.

"It was a worrying week last week. He still has a lot of challenges - a lot of challenges with food - just a lot of challenges, challenges with lungs, challenges with everything.

"We just want him to wake up. The nurses are putting this show on in the morning for him in the hope he will wake up and in the hope it may trigger something.

"It is a waiting game really but at least I have the chance TO wait... because he is still with us."
