Coronavirus: Jared Leto had no idea about pandemic after 10 days in retreat with no phone

Jared Leto has just left a silent retreat after living in the desert with no communication with the outside world - and no idea the coronavirus had become a pandemic.

The actor said he was "mind blown" to have emerged into a world of panic as the potentially deadly virus is spreading and the death toll rises.

Jared, 48, was unaware that so many people were self-isolating, and his fellow Oscar winner Tom Hanks has been diagnosed with the virus and released from hospital all in the time Jared was away.

He was on a 12-day "silent meditation" retreat, and he explained his shock upon returning to his usual life.

He wrote a post on Instagram that read: "Wow. 12 days ago I began a silent meditation in the desert. We were totally isolated. No phone, no communication etc. We had no idea what was happening outside the facility.

"Walked out yesterday into a very different world. One that’s been changed forever. Mind blowing - to say the least. I’m getting messages from friends and family all around the globe and catching up on what’s going on."

He finished his post with a kind message to his followers, sending them "positive energy".

"Hope you and yours are ok. Sending positive energy to all. Stay inside. Stay safe," he wrote.

Naomi Campbell replied: "Hope you and loved ones are safe".

Another follower wrote: "You were better off staying in the desert. This is madness".

"Lucky you. Probably would have been best to stay in your meditation and isolation," agreed another.

Meanwhile, many celebs including Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Idris Elba are all in self-isolation, with Idris confirming yesterday he tested positive for the illness.

Hollywood star Tom Hanks and his actress wife Rita Wilson have been released from hospital following treatment for coronavirus.

The 63-year-old couple had been receiving expert care in Australia following positive test results for COVID-19.
